It was as if the designers knew that messenger bag users were a unique breed and demanded differently from their bags. It was as if the designers at Vanquest had long histories riding around NYC delivering packages on stripped down 10 speeds. But, what was designed was also paired with expert balance. The design features of the Skitch aren’t remarkable. I have noticed that when I did overload the bag a bit, instead of destroying my shoulder as if someone was forcing information out of me by polishing the skin on my shoulder with coarse sandpaper, the Skitch 12 merely just gets a little uncomfortable, but still does it’s job in distributing the load and keeping up with you. You grab it, load it out with what you need for the day and you head out. It doesn’t try to make you into something you are not like some other bags. The Skitch 12 is a bag that conforms to you. The rows of molle on either end of the bag may seem virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the straps on the bag, but because it is there, it gives you that operational flexibility if you were to ever need it. It isn’t merely just a messenger bag, but it is a messenger bag that comes stock with tactical features. When taking the Skitch 12 out on my many adventures I tend to forget what I really have on my back. What the Skitch 12 lacks in comfort, it makes up for in usefulness and it does it in spades. But, it is definitely within the top 5 in comfort. Is it the most comfortable bag that I have ever worn? No. It doesn’t get all flashy with odd bumps and angles. It doesn’t scream out with a unique design. The Skitch 12 isn’t one of those high-performance bags that makes people look at you. The bag is just loaded with features, yet if you took the time to list out all the features, it makes the bag seem…well…less capable. But, smaller doesn’t mean less functional. The Skitch 12 is the smaller of the Skitch bags, actually smallest in all of the Vanquest messenger bag designs. There was a subtle tactical feel to the bag while keeping the inherent lineage all messenger bags share with one another despite coming from different manufacturers or realms they operate in. And, like a kid on Christmas day ripping away at the wrapping paper, when I finally got to the Skitch I just sat back and had a moment to myself. I damn near humped my postal delivery guy when I tracked the package to my front door. When first laying eyes on it a few months ago, it took my breath away when I pulled it out of the box. There is just something so casually cool about the bag. Now, with some time in use, I have decided that an extended review was needed. And if that is the true direction of the name, then I get it. Skitch is a derivative of basically hitching a ride while going for a skate. I will forego with both meanings and will assume the one that may be where Vanquest was going for. Both having the combination of two words. So, I dove into the world of the interwebs and “googled” it. I had trouble figuring out what that meant. My go-to everyday carry bag – Vanquest Skitch 12
